The Settle Carlisle Railway Development Company Community Rail Partnership (CRP) has installed banners at every station along the 72 miles of the scenic railway to welcome new passengers on the line.
West Coast Mainline trains are being diverted onto the former Midland Railway line in early January while the Clifton railway bridge over the M6 is replaced, meaning many new passengers will be travelling through the North Yorkshire Dales and Cumbrian countryside.
To welcome and promote the line to West Coast Mainline passengers, the CRP has installed the banners that depict the route’s iconic Ribblehead Viaduct. They also include a QR code for the CRP’s new Traxplorer App, a free, real-time guide to what you can see and visit along the line.
The Settle Carlisle Railway has been recognised in TripAdvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Awards for 2025, making it among the top ten per cent of listings around the world. The line has also been named among the top ten most scenic routes in Europe by travel publishers Lonely Planet.
Pete Myers, chair of the Settle Carlisle Railway Development Company, said: “Many people will be travelling along our line for the first time, as the West Coast Mainline diverts. This is an opportunity to promote the Settle Carlisle Railway, which celebrates 150 years of passenger services, and provides a gateway to the North Yorkshire Dales, Cumbria’s Eden Valley and the Lake District.
“We hope travellers on the diverted West Coast Mainline, as well as our passengers using the Northern daily service, will enjoy discovering more about the line via our Traxplorer app.”
The Traxplorer app can be downloaded for free from the Apple or Google Play stores.
