Young wizards and witches living between Leeds and Carlisle are invited to take part in some spooky seasonal fun this Halloween.
At Appleby Station on Friday 31 October, children enjoying their half-term holiday will be able to take part in broomstick flying lessons, crafts and play events and the ‘Horrible Histories of Appleby’ tour – and of course there will be a free gift for those arriving in fancy dress.
Five years ago, Appleby took its place in film history as it was named an official town of quidditch, the sport which features in the Harry Potter series of books.
Families arriving at Appleby Station on the 9.20am train from Leeds and 10.58am from Carlisle will be able to make their way down into the town and meet at The Cloisters, where the owner of The Cupboard Under the Stairs gift shop will be organising the free broomstick lessons and spooky crafts.
Both trains will have a trolley service onboard, with more information about the Halloween events.

Pete Myers, chair of Settle Carlisle Railway Development Company, said: “Last year’s event was so successful, and we are delighted to be able to work with the community in Appleby again to celebrate Halloween, highlighting two trains to welcome, one from Leeds and the other from Carlisle.
“Our aim is to work with and support the communities along the line and encourage more people to enjoy the benefits of travelling on our line. For many young people, this may be their first journey on a train, and we want it to be a magical experience for all the family.”
