Three guided heritage walks in August and September from North Staffordshire CRP stations

North Staffordshire Community Rail Partnership (CRP) have three upcoming heritage walks as part of their Rails to Trails series.

Rails to Trails is a collection of 11 station walks which allow users to explore different railway villages, towns and cities.

Details of the upcoming walks for August and September are as follows:

Walk 1: Longport Station – The first Potteries Transport Hub?

  • Tuesday 9 August 10:30am-12:30pm
  • Join local historian Andy Perkins from the Potteries Heritage Society on a short, guided walk starting and finishing at Longport Station.

Walk 2: Penkridge: Historic Village and Canal.

  • Thursday 25 August 11am-1pm
  • This 1.7-mile walk follows a route around the village centre and part of the scenic Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal. Join Community Rail Officer Emma in exploring the beautiful historic village of Penkridge, as well as making a special visit to the Penkridge Heritage Centre to see the Old Gaol and Stocks.

Walk 3: Tutbury: Historic Village, Priory Church and Castle.

  • Tuesday 6 September 11:15am-1pm
  • Join Community Rail Officer Claire on this 2-mile walk which starts and finishes at Tutbury and Hatton Station. From there, the route crosses the beautiful River Dove into the charming village of Tutbury, with its High Street and Grade 1 listed Priory Church of St Mary. The tour will culminate in an optional visit to Tutbury Castle, which will require an entrance fee. More info on the Castle can be found here.
