A collaboration between Severnside Community Rail Partnership (CRP) and Bristol-based public art specialist Upfest has seen the underpass and ramps at Bedminster Station covered in vibrant and playful artworks, brightening up the station for the local community.
The Friends of Bedminster Station initially flagged the need to refresh the artwork inside the station, which had been created many years ago by local school children.
A public consultation was drafted to find out what themes and artist styles the local community would like to see in place. The most popular themes were Community, Nature, Sustainability and Landscapes.
Severnside CRP then reached out to Upfest, who were keen to get involved, and local artists Paul Monsters and Lucas Antics were shortlisted to complete the works.
Upfest host an annual street art festival, which sees new murals painted in public spaces all around Bedminster. The festival attracts over 50,000 visitors and showcases local, UK and international artists.
The project was kindly supported by Bristol City Council’s Community Infrastructure Levy and Great Western Railway (GWR).

Faye Keane, community development officer at Severnside CRP, said: “The new artworks reflect the creative community that surrounds the station, which has been dubbed Bristol’s Arts Quarter. It’s been a pleasure to collaborate with Upfest to enhance the station and we hope to encourage more visitors to come and visit the area by train.”
Alex Lucas of Lucas Antics said: “I’ve loved working in Bedminster for the last couple of weeks. The underpass is a space that people use every day, so being able to brighten it up with a mural that reflects both the history and the future of this community is an incredible opportunity.
“The brief called for an artwork that would create a welcoming and vibrant gateway to Bedminster, and we’ve included local wildlife, familiar landmarks, and the spirit of togetherness in our designs. I hope our work adds a little bit of joy and inspiration to everyone who comes through here.”
Alex Hills, GWR Flagship Station Manager, said: “We’re delighted to support this project and the artwork by Lucas Antics and Paul Monsters has helped transform the underpass at Bedminster Station, giving it a striking uplift. I’d encourage people to take a trip down to the station to take a look for themselves.”
