Yorkshire Coast Community Rail Partnership (CRP) has hosted another successful Santa Special train trip.
On Saturday 2 December, the 11:21 Hull to Scarborough service was packed with excited families, many of whom were travelling all the way to Scarborough to visit other festive events advertised alongside the Santa Special by the Yorkshire Coast CRP.
On reaching Scarborough, Santa and his helpers went to visit the craft fair taking place in the Old Parcels Office on Platform 1. Volunteers handed out more refreshments and talked to people there about the work of Yorkshire Coast CRP.
Rachel Osborne, Community Rail Officer, said: “10 volunteers braved the cold weather and between them contributed over 30 hours of work to really put the ‘special’ into this seasonal event.
“Santa and his helpers were kept busy on the journey, giving out sweets and mince pies and chatting to passengers. There was so much joy and laughter on the train, and it was wonderful to see the delight on the children’s faces as Santa came down the train. The frosty and snowy weather also certainly added some extra magic to the journey!”
Pete Myers, Chair of Yorkshire Coast CRP, said: “This was a lovely event – such a great one to run, especially after the pandemic stopped so many events. It was great to see so many people riding the train just to see Santa, who really made the day of so many young people.
“I am so proud of the Yorkshire Coast CRP – all the volunteers were fully engaged with the event and continue to work tirelessly to promote our line.
“Thanks to Northern who supported the event financially and provided and fitted the Santa Special ‘headboard’. It was a huge success and felt like what community rail is all about.”
