Yorkshire Coast CRP’s ‘try the train’ trip opens up opportunities for children

Rachel Osborne, Community Rail Officer at the Yorkshire Coast Community Rail Partnership (CRP), tells us about facilitating a recent ‘try the train’ trip for children from the Hinge Centre.

“On Thursday 4 March, the Yorkshire Coast CRP took a group of children and staff from the Hinge Centre in Bridlington on a train trip to Hull.

“The Hinge Centre is a small, locally focused charity based in the Bridlington area. The centre aims to provide support, guidance, services, and opportunities to those facing social and financial deprivation.

“Myself, Barry and Denise from Yorkshire Coast CRP met the group at Bridlington Station, and travelled with them on the train to Hull. We did a rail safety quiz with the children and chatted to them about how to stay safe when using stations and trains. We were very impressed with their knowledge!

“When we arrived in Hull, the children and group leaders went to explore Feren’s Art Gallery and take part in the model making workshop there, before having lunch and visiting the Streetlife Museum.

“Some of these children don’t get the chance to travel on a train very often, if at all, so this was a real treat for them. One or two were a bit nervous as they boarded the train, but soon relaxed, started chatting and their confidence grew. They all had a brilliant time, and it was great to see the smiles on their faces.

“Huge thanks to Northern for supporting this trip and providing assisted travel.”
