‘You Are Here’: station art exhibition explores community life in Glossop

The Friends of Glossop Station have welcomed a new art display in the station’s Waiting Room Art Gallery.

Since its inception in 2015, the Waiting Room Art Gallery has provided a valuable space for local artists to promote their work, hosting over 30 different exhibitions.

The latest display, created by artist Evie O’Connor, is the result of a new collaboration between Glossop Creates, the High Peak & Hope Valley Community Rail Partnership and the Friends of Glossop Station.

Evie was sponsored by the CRP to create original artwork for the exhibition, entitled ‘You Are Here’. In developing the project, Evie visited local archives with the help of the Glossop Heritage Trust, to discover and creatively present the anchors of community that are present in everyday life. She has also undertaken workshops associated with the project in a local secondary school.

Over fifty people attended the official exhibition launch at Glossop Station on Thursday 4 April.

Steven Dexter, speaking on behalf of Glossop Creates, thanked the CRP for sponsoring the new collaborative opportunity, as well as the Friends of Glossop Station and Northern for their hard work in transforming the waiting room into a space for local artists and photographers.

The exhibition runs for six weeks. The Waiting Room Art Gallery is open from 6:30am-6:30pm Mondays to Saturdays and 10am-4:30pm on Sundays.
