Bedford Station Christmas concerts raise £750+ for foodbank and dementia support

Carol singers at Bedford Station raised over £750 for local charities in December.

Passengers arriving at Bedford Station during the evening rush hour of 18 and 20 December were entertained by a selection of carols and Christmas music performed by Bedford Choral Society and Chasing Deer.

A team of volunteers were on hand to collect donations from passengers. Mohammad Yasin, MP for Bedford and Kempston, kindly joined the team for the Chasing Deer concert, and helped distribute colouring sheets, pencils, and copies of the pick-a-path railway safety book Arlo’s Adventures to children.

Marston Vale Community Rail Partnership (CRP) arranged the festive concerts in conjunction with Beds & Herts CRP and Thameslink.

£361.26 was raised on 18 December for Tibbs Dementia Foundation, with a further £424.61 collected on 20 December for Bedford Foodbank.

Stephen Sleight, Marston Vale CRP Officer, said: “I am delighted that our concerts raised such a large amount of money for two very worthy causes. My thanks to Bedford Choral Society and Chasing Deer for providing wonderful Christmas music, and to our fantastic team of volunteers, in particular Mohammad Yasin MP, for making time in his busy diary to join us. And, of course, a huge thank you to passengers for their generous donations!”
