Christmas arrives at Flimby Station

Pupils at Flimby Primary School have designed a new Christmas banner that will be displayed at Flimby Railway Station over the festive period, alongside some fresh seasonal wreaths.

Since adopting Flimby Railway Station in 2019, Flimby Primary School have had the opportunity to take the children along the west coast on the train and work together with Community Rail Cumbria on a range of different initiatives.

The group were recently awarded 3rd place in the category of ‘Best Community Engagement Project’ at the 2022 Community Rail Awards for their work on the ‘Our Flimby’ project, aiming to encourage the local community to reconnect with family, friends, and neighbours by going out and exploring Flimby, taking photographs of their favourite places and putting them forward for display at the station on the ‘Board of Hope’.

It has now become a tradition for the children to create and display a new Christmas banner at the station every year, with the children creating designs that wish all those who travel by train a Merry Christmas. This year’s theme was Christmas cards, and the final result is a colourful, vibrant and festive banner that showcases the children’s artwork.

Charlie, a Year 6 pupil, said: “I chose to do Santa as he is known for Christmas. The banner is really good and will make the station look festive.”

Warren Birch, Community Rail Partnership Officer for the Cumbrian Coast Line, said: “It’s always a pleasure to help judge the wonderful artwork created by the pupils of Flimby Primary School. The banner brings a festive cheer to the railway station for all to enjoy.”

Flimby Primary School would like to say a special thank you to Northern for funding the wonderful festive banner.
