Training and development bursary scheme
Training and development bursary scheme
We run a bursary scheme to assist with access to the training and development that individuals and organisations within community rail may require.
So far, bursaries have paid for courses such as First Aid at Work, Bid-Writing, Makaton, Mental Health First Aid and Project Management. These are just a few ideas – you may want to learn about urban gardening, how to create a website, or you might be taking on some management responsibilities for the first time.
Bursaries are available to fund training for a member of staff or a volunteer from a Community Rail Network member in England and Wales. The scheme will fund a place on a course or at a conference that will:
- Increase skills and knowledge for an individual in relation to carrying out their role in community rail
- Improve an organisation’s effectiveness and ability to achieve community rail aims
The bursary will fund or part-fund a course place or conference fees up to £200. The course must be an advertised course run by an external organisation.
Apply BEFORE your course so that we can confirm that a bursary will be awarded. Once we’ve agreed your application, Community Rail Network will only reimburse you once you’ve attended the course. Your group/organisation will need to pay initially and then claim the bursary amount back from us. We’ll send claim forms when the bursary is approved. Read the guidelines below before you apply.
2024-25 – Bursaries are provided on a first come, first served basis and the pot is limited, so if you have something in mind please apply as soon as you can. One bursary per member organisation in the calendar year. We may open the scheme up to additional applications from member organisations in September if funds allow.
If you are interested, please download the bursary scheme guidelines and application form below. Read the guidelines carefully before you submit your application to make sure you are eligible. If you have some training in mind but can’t find a course, please contact the training and development team, who may be able to help find something suitable.
