Uckfield Station provides ‘shop window of opportunity’ to local community

Southeast Communities Rail Partnership (SCRP) has utilised Uckfield Station as a ‘shop window’ to support the projects of various voluntary agencies in and around Uckfield.

Uckfield Station now houses a fabulous display highlighting help, assistance, engagement opportunities, and projects supporting the community and the environment.

These include The Community Fridge, an organisation encouraging the sharing and reducing of food waste; Uckfield Volunteer Centre, who take unused and out-of-date tech equipment to be refurbished and donated to those in need; and Sussex Support Services, who provide a range of services including carer support, friendship clubs, a repair café, art club, community café, and so much more.

The new ‘shop window’ also includes a display supporting locally based wildlife charity International Animal Rescue, which runs the entire length of the station’s windows. This portion of the project was made possible with funding from Community Rail Network.

Sharon Gray, Community Rail Development Officer at SCRP, said: “Uckfield has such an active and supportive community, that I wanted the station to do its bit to support them. The station building, which is basically a big glass box, lends itself perfectly to the project.”
